Phyllonycteris poeyi

One of the 3 endemic bat species, Phyllonycteris poeyi, forms huge colonies in the extensive underground cave system of the Reserve. “Hot” caves, which trap the heat given off by millions of individuals of P. poeyi, seethe at 38ºC and 90% relative humidity.
